A group of 8th grade students have been formally trained as peer mediators during an 8 week course. These Peer mediators are available to help 5th and 6th grade students to resolve conflicts at an early intervention stage. In many cases, the disputants sign a formal contract and the mediators set a date for a follow up meeting to assess the progress that the students have made. Referrals for Peer Mediation come from grade level teachers, Gudiance Counsellors, School Administration, and often from the students themselves.
