Here at Martin Kellogg Middle School we offer a varity of different musical activities that are open to all students. Not only will students participate in one music class a week, offered during the specials time, but they are encouraged to join any number of fun and fulfilling bands, orchestras, and choruses.
Students may take part in Jazz band, 5th and 6th Grade band, or 7th and 8th Grade band, all depending on which they are eligable for. All of these bands are led by Ms. Coutremache, who also teaches the piano music classes for the seventh and eighth graders.
Students may also join the orchestra, under the baton of Mrs.Cohen. 5th Graders are invited to play in the 5th grade orchestra, while 6th, 7th, and 8th graders may play with the senior orchestra.
All of our ensembles at Martin Kellogg attend an adjudication festival in West Springfield, Mass. at the end of June where they compete not against other bands, but against themselves for Bronze, Silver, or Gold medals. This is a very exciting event for all the music students as they strive to show the world how well they can play. It is also enlightening for both students and faculty to view other schools as they compete for medals.
